This series was created after spending some time meditating on personal experiences, relationships, and people who were once close, and not so close. It is a ‘still’ performance interpreting an emotional exchange of 3 unassuming strangers.

We somewhat recognise that we are an amalgamation of the narratives within our closest circles, but we are equally molded by the unspoken narratives and people that aren’t so immediately present  — not just the stories we were told as children by our parents, but the fleeting glimpses of strangers’ lives as they walk past us laughing or arguing, while we mentally debate if we turned off the stove; the gone and forgone lovers who unawarely shape who we become in new relationships; those 5 seconds of Netflix-like romance when you meet a someone’s gaze on the train; the faces of strangers that sneak deep into our minds and later emerge in our dreams.

But in the end, these entangled narratives are projections of our own perceptions; manifestations of our being in the world which we pour into others, who pour themselves into us. Each interaction with someone is a unique experiment that sparks a chain of unpredictable outcomes.

For a moment in time, we are all each others’ vessels.

_______________

The visual approach of this project was inspired by the emotive qualities of traditional 35mm and 16mm cinematography, and the power of narrative to be found in moving image – embracing details such as motion blur, missed-focus and dynamic movements and compositions. I questioned what is the closest thing to motion that I could convey with the resources I have right now. I therefore shot fragments of a 'film' composed out of stills, which was in its own right an intriguing duality to play with.
